City Police

The theft of a safe and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Putnam Inn, 400 N. Jackson St., remains under investigation, Greencastle City Police reported.

The safe was taken from the restaurant office in the overnight hours Nov. 9-10, Det. Michael Collins said.

Security camera video shows a lone perpetrator -- who reportedly entered the building by popping open a rear door -- wearing a hoodie and mostly covered up, so no description has been released.

Police have been working on getting the video “cleaned up” to see if a better picture of the intruder can emerge, the detective said.

“We’re going on very little right now,” Collins said until such time as the video can be enhanced.

Officer Matt Huffman is investigating.

• A pedestrian suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when the shopping cart she was pushing in the Kroger parking lot on Indianapolis Road was struck by a car.

Denise Crossman, 49, Greencastle, was struck in the upper leg by the empty cart, Sgt. Ed Wilson reported, after the shopping cart was run into by a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Brandi Seeger, 39, Greencastle.

Seeger told police she was focused on an available parking space nearby and did not see Crossman and the cart.

The report did not indicate whether or not Crossman needed medical attention from an ambulance.

Total property damage in the 1:23 p.m. accident was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 3:37 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap on Bloomington Street near Primrose Lane resulted in a pair of citations for one of the drivers.

Gary Wade Jr., 28, Greencastle, had stopped his 2012 Ford Focus on Bloomington Street because of a turning vehicle ahead of him, police said.

Meanwhile, Trevor Smith, 23, Greencastle, was approaching the Wade car in a 2003 Saturn Vue when his brakes reportedly locked up on the wet pavement and his car slid into the rear of the Wade vehicle.

Sgt. Wilson estimated total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Smith was cited for having an expired license plate and for operating his vehicle without financial responsibility (no insurance).

• At 2:37 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Seminary Street at its intersection with Indiana Street.

Betty Gibson, 79, Greencastle, told Officer Josh Smith she did not see the stopsign at the intersection.

Gibson reportedly drove her 2003 Pontiac Sunfire into the intersection without stopping, striking a 1997 Chevrolet that had entered the intersection driven by Johnny Lee, 58, Crawfordsville.

Total damage in the mishap was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff’s Department

• On Wednesday at 4:40 p.m., Trever D. Wood, 17, of Greencastle was eastbound on County Road 25 South at its intersection of County Road 100 East in a 2000 GMC Sierra while Jennifer K. Day, 41, of Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 100 East at the same intersection in a 2016 Hyundai Sante Fe.

Neither observed the other after stopping, and they collided as they pulled out into the intersection.

There were no injuries. Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $5,000 - $10,000.
