Nathan Williams was apprehended at 7:45 p.m. by Sgt. Eric Vaughan after the theft suspect reportedly fled the Walmart premises and went into a wooded area nearby.

Authorities said Williams attempted to take items totaling $650.72 without paying for them but was forced to flee when Walmart officials were alerted to the reported shoplifting attempt.

The suspect reportedly tried to take two cellphones, a computer tablet, a headset, stylus and a knife among a dozen total items.

Williams was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.
