James Brady Simmons

James Brady Simmons, 58, of Crawfordsville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 peacefully at his home after losing his battle with long-term illness.

Jim was born Oct. 10, 1959 in San Diego, Calif.

He traveled the country before residing with his family in Greencastle, where he graduated high school in 1978 from Greencastle High School.

Jim married his high school sweetheart, Kathy (Jones), on Dec. 16, 1978. They were married 20 years and had two children, Brady and Jenna, before divorcing in 1998. They later crossed paths again and had been residing together as companions until his passing.

Jim was a No. 1 Pittsburgh Steeler football fan. He was an accomplished mushroom and ginseng hunter in the central Indiana area. Jim was a carpenter and a master of his trade.

He never knew a stranger and would befriend anybody and everyone. Jim was also an avid classic rock fan. He was a very kind and generous man. Most importantly, Jim was a wonderful father, son, brother and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his mother, Dorothy Simmons (Martin); sister Joetta (husband Frank) Tassotti; his two children, son Brady L. Simmons (ex-wife Kasey) and daughter Jenna M. (husband David) Slade; his four grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren, Carly and Addilynn; life companion Kathy Baker; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Joseph B. "Joe" Simmons; maternal grandparents Alex and Gertrude Martin; uncle William "Bill" Martin; and aunt and uncle Carolyn Sue and James N. "Jim" Holmes.

A private family burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello, Ind.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello at a later date.
