County Jail

Six people were recently booked into the Putnam County Jail.

Friday

• At 2:29 a.m., Timothy L. Swafford, 41, of Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 5:02 a.m., Tammy M. Parker, 47, of Indianapolis, was booked into the jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and trespassing.

• At 5:17 a.m., Steve D. Smith, 44, of Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on charges of criminal trespass, dangerous possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 9:52 a.m., Andrea N. Tillberry, 25, of Cloverdale, was booked into the jail on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 12:13 a.m., David S. Branagin, 45, of Greencastle, was booked into the jail on parole violation.

• At 10:23 p.m., Pamela M. Hensley, 45, of Coatesville, was lodged at the jail on charges of battery and two counts of operating while intoxicated.

City Police

A 39-year-old Greencastle man is being held on four charges following a one-vehicle accident Saturday night on Manhattan Road, Greencastle City Police reported.

• At 7:13 p.m., Brandon Rumley was arrested on Sunset Drive and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (with a prior offense) and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment.

Witnesses told GPD Officer Zach Rhine that Rumley was southbound on Manhattan Road, driving a 2004 Ford F-250 truck when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Rumley reportedly returned to the roadway, continuing south before turning the truck around and heading back northbound, until he was discovered in the middle of Sunset Drive, police said.

Tested for blood-alcohol content, Rumley registered a .000 BAC, and was then taken to Putnam County Hospital for drug testing, the results of which had not been returned from the lab.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

In addition to the criminal charges, Rumley was also cited by Officer Rhine for having an expired license plate and for operating a motor vehicle without financial responsibility.

One additional recent was reported recently by city officers.

• At 7:15 p.m. Friday, Kallie Pruitt, 24, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Rhine at North College Avenue Apartments.

She was taken into custody and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Putnam County warrant for battery causing bodily injury.

Sheriff’s Department

Wednesday

• At 2:14 a.m., Zachary L. Greenwell, 26, of Terre Haute, was westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2010 Nissan Altima near Greencastle when a deer ran into his passenger side.

There were no injuries. Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,001-$25,000.

Friday

• At 5:50 p.m., Ronil N. Akurandim, 43, of Plainfield, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near Greencastle in a 2008 Honda Fit when he hit a deer.

There were no injuries. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 6:21 p.m., Jason M. Holmes, 43, of Bainbridge, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

There were no injuries. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

Saturday

• At 4:49 p.m., Deputy Riley Houghton responded to an accident on County Road 725 East near U.S. 36 and Bainbridge.

Arriving at the scene, Deputy Houghton found Pamela M. Hensley, 45, of Coatesville, standing beside her 2018 Chevrolet Equinox on the west side of the roadway facing south from the roadway. She had a laceration above her left eye and said she didn’t remember the accident, but her vehicle had heavy front end damage and air bag deployment.

He also found Debby L. Zaring, 57, of Fillmore, in the driver’s seat of her 2013 Buick Regal on the east side of the roadway facing northwest. She complained of knee and ankle pain, and her vehicle also had heavy front-end damage and air bag deployment.

Hensley was taken to Putnam County Hospital and Zaring to Hendricks Regional Hospital. Both vehicles were towed by S & S Towing.

Deputy Houghton estimated damage at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 7:40 p.m., Zachary S. Secrest, 20, of Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near East Tall Oaks Drive in a 2007 Toyota Corona when he lost control at the top of a hill, went off the road into the west side ditch, hit a wooden fence belonging to the Hutcheson Family Estate, backed against a tree and finally rested against a culvert.

There were no injuries. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000. The vehicle was towed by Jerry’s Towing.

• At 12:33 a.m., Kayla M. Rhoads, 29, of Roachdale, was northbound on County Road 250 near Roachdale in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler when she went off the road on the west side, hit and broke a utility pole, and flipped her vehicle onto the passenger side.

Deputy Soilleux, assisted by Deputy Ben Brown, reported Rhoads was unconscious and suspended by her seatbelt in the driver’s seat when he arrived on scene.

Rhoads was taken to Hendricks County Hospital. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $25,001-$30,000. The vehicle was towed by S & S Towing.

• At 9:09 p.m., Alex M. Gaston, 26, of Greenfield was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2000 Ford Escort when the tire on his rear passenger side lost traction, he lost control and ran off the road into the east side ditch and hit a driveway marker.

Deputy Soilleux reported the tire was flat and both driver side tires extremely underinflated.

There were no injuries. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $1,001 - $2,500. The vehicle was towed by Seniour’s Towing.

Sunday

• At 2:25 a.m., David M. Murphy, 30, of Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 1000 South near Cloverdale in a 2006 Ford Taurus when he didn’t stop in time for a tree in the road and went into the north side ditch where he came to rest on power lines and a guardrail.

There were no injuries. Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

Correction

An accident report printed in the Tuesday, Nov. 21 edition of the Banner Graphic contained inaccurate information.

The incorrect driver’s name was printed in one of the following reports, while the other was not printed at all.

• At 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, Donald J. Himson, 58, Yukon, Okla., was traveling 70 mph in the fast lane on Interstate 70 in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro when he braked for Scott L. Poynter, 37, of Indianapolis, going 55 mph in the fast lane in a 2002 Honda Odyssey.

The surface was wet due to heavy rain in the area and Himson’s vehicle hydroplaned and struck Poynter’s, causing Poynter to lose control, run off the road and hit a guardrail and a tree. All four of Poynter’s passengers were taken to the Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life.

The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted. Capt. Tom Helmer, assisted by Deputy Brian Helmer and Lt. Donnie Pettit, estimated damage at $25,001-$50,000.

Himson’s vehicle was towed by Adams Towing. Poynter’s was towed by Curtis Wrecker.

• At 7:13 a.m. on Saturday, Thomas H. Duggan, 57, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2015 Toyota RAV4 when a deer jumped into his path and he could not avoid the collision.

Deputy Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.
