Boys

Crawfordsville at Greencastle

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: David Pierce is in his eighth year at Crawfordsville with a record of 70-86. Bryce Rector is in his second year at Greencastle with a record of 8-15.

So far: The game is the season opener for both teams.

History: Crawfordsville won 46-33 in February in the sectional and has won 20 of the last 31 meetings.

Key players: Senior Colin York is the leading returning scorer for Greencastle at 18.8 points per game. Junior Gavin Bollman is also a returning starter.

The Athenians were 16-8 last year, and also return their leading scorer in senior Carson Harris (15.0).

Clay City at South Putnam

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Vance Edmondson is in his ninth year at Clay City with a record of 101-94. Greg Dean is in his fourth year at South Putnam with a record of 13-55.

So far: The game is the season opener for both teams.

History: Clay City won 49-45 on its homecourt last year and has a 13-12 lead in the last 25 meetings.

Key players: South Putnam returns its leading scorer from last season in junior Allen Plunkett (14.9).

Clay City finished 7-17 last season.

Girls

Greencastle (3-3) at Crawfordsville (2-4)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Bradley Key is in his ninth year at Greencastle with a record of 115-70. Tony Bean is in his second year at Crawfordsville with a record of 5-24.

So far: Greencastle won the Putnam County Classic title on Saturday night by defeating South Putnam 33-32 for its third straight win. The Tiger Cubs beat North Putnam 37-19 in the semifinals and beat Southmont 53-38 earlier last week.

Crawfordsville lost 50-30 to Seeger, beat North Putnam 39-36, lost 77-19 to Tri-West, beat Turkey Run 64-45, lost 50-23 to North Montgomery and lost 54-43 to Southmont.

History: Greencastle won 62-33 last year on its home court. Crawfordsville has won eight of the last 15 meetings.

Key players: Rose White leads Greencastle in scoring and rebounding.

South Vermillion (1-4) at North Putnam (3-3)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Jeff McCoy is in his first year at South Vermillion. Jarrod Duff is in his second year at North Putnam.

So far: South Vermillion lost 66-59 to Edgewood, 64-60 to Clay City, 80-55 to North Central, defeated Seeger 56-30 and lost 32-2 to Attica.

North Putnam defeated North Vermillion 28-26, lost 39-36 to Crawfordsville, lost 44-14 to Monrovia, beat Covington 49-43, lost to Greencastle 37-19 and lost 57-27 to Cloverdale. The Cougars were awarded a forfeit win over Monrovia.

History: South Vermillion won 47-30 on its homecourt last year and has won nine of the last 16 meetings.

Key players: North Putnam has had balanced scoring this season.

Sophomore Mallory Hawkins leads South Vermillion in scoring at 17.8, while sophomore Rebecca Berry adds 10.6 ppg.

Wednesday

Boys

North Putnam at Southmont

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Collin McCartt is in his fourth year at North Putnam with a record of 21-49. Jon Sparks is in his sixth year at Southmont with a record of 46-65.

So far: The game is the season opener for both teams.

History: Southmont won 72-61 at Bainbridge last year and has won 20 of the last 30 meetings between the teams.

Key players: Senior Elliot Gross led North Putnam in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (6.4) last year, while senior Treyton Smith added 9.0 points and 4.9 assists.

Senior Cam Chadd led Southmont in scoring last year with 19.9 points per game and also averaged 6.9 rebounds.
