I-70 crash likely result of possible fatigued driving

CLOVERDALE -- A 20-year-old semi driver was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Putnam County early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a semi crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 45-mile marker, four miles east of Cloverdale.

Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported that preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Freightliner tractor, pulling a box trailer and driven by Eddie Yako Khammi of Warren, Mich., was westbound on I-70 when the semi veered into median and made impact with several trees near the 45-mile marker.

Authorities believe Khammi fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in loss of control of the semi.

Khammi was transported to Putnam County Hospital with a possible fractured leg.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Austin Fowler. Assisting at the scene were Trooper David Cox Jr., Putnam County Sheriff's Office deputies, Putnam County EMS personnel, Cloverdale Fire/Rescue and Curtis Wrecker Service.
