Gene J. McMurtry

Gene J. McMurtry, 80, of Bainbridge, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1937 in Indianapolis to the late Perry and Juanita (Miller) McMurtry.

On March 3, 1961, in Belleville, Ind., he married Nancy (Anderson) McMurtry. They were married 56 years.

Gene graduated from Bainbridge High School, and then attended Michigan State University.

He proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1956-1960.

Gene loved horses, antique tractors, gardening and mowing his yard. He will be greatly missed by many.

He attended New Life Baptist Church, in Brownsvalley.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children William "Bill" (Susan) McMurtry, Diana (Duane) Shelton and Daniel McMurtry; grandchildren Denver (Caitlin) McMurtry, Tiffany (companion Nick) McMurtry and Logan (Devin) McMurtry; great-grandchildren Tate and Bryan McMurtry; sister Mildred Copeland, Oklahoma City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John McMurtry and sister Marilyn Barrios.

Funeral service will be at noon Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale, with Pastor Galen Fitzsimmons officiating. He will be laid to rest privately by his family. Friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the funeral home.
