Sheriff’s Department

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department recently responded to six property-damage accidents and one personal injury accident.

Monday

• At 8:40 a.m., Patsy J. Sheehan, 65, of Omaha, Neb., was westbound on Interstate 70 near Cloverdale in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala when she swerved into the median, overcorrected across the westbound lane and the north shoulder, slid down a grass embankment and rolled once before coming to rest on her wheels.

Operation Life transported her to Putnam County Hospital with complaints of back and hip pain.

Capt. Tom Helmer, assisted Deputy Brian Helmer, estimated damage at $10,001 - $25,000. The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.

Sunday

•At 3 p.m., Joseph D. Acton, 61, of North Vernon, was eastbound on U.S. 36 near Bainbridge in a 2015 Kia Soul when he fell asleep and went over a culvert before stopping in a cornfield.

Deputy Helmer estimated damage at $2,501 - $5,000.

Wednesday

• At 8:48 p.m., Mark A. McCammon, 53, of Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 near Cloverdale in a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban when he hit a deer.

Sgt. Kyle Gibbons estimated damage at $1,001 - $2,500.

• At 7:42 p.m., Laura E. Crulden, 28, of Zionsville, was westbound on State Road 240 near Greencastle in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,001 - $25,000.

• At 6:21 p.m., Deputy Soilleux responded to a property-damage accident reported differently by two parties.

Brittany M. Knight, 29, of Waveland, said that she was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2014 Chrysler 300 when Carolyn J. Jackson, 66, of Greencastle, in a 2008 Lexus ES 350, suddenly slowed, apparently to turn onto West County Road 25 South, and Knight struck the rear of Jackson’s vehicle.

Jackson said she was going 35 mph and had not slowed or hit the brakes when she was struck from behind.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $5,001 - $10,000.

Nov. 21

• At 6:27 p.m., Vincent E. Johnson, 29, of Lizton, was eastbound on State Road 236 near Roachdale in a 2006 Dodge Ram when he hit a cow belonging to Max Wyeth, of Roachdale.

Deputy Anthony Brown estimated damage at $2,501 - $5,000.

Nov. 20

• At 6:24 p.m., Matt T. Lewis, 36, was westbound on U.S. 36 near Bainbridge in a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado when he hit a deer. While his vehicle was still in the roadway, Gerald E. Ensor, 77, in a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, sideswiped Lewis. Ensor said there were no lights.

Lewis’s vehicle was towed by Adam’s Towing. Deputy Brown estimated damage at $10,000 - $25,000.

City Police

One arrest was reported recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Chris Hutto, 40, Greencastle, was arrested on North Madison Street by Capt. Chris Jones.

Hutto was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a pair of outstanding Putnam County warrants for invasion of privacy.

One recent traffic citation was issued by city officers.

-- At 11:31 p.m. Saturday, Michael Gellman, 22, Simsbury, Conn., was ticketed by Officer Alec Pettit.

Gellman was cited on Taylor Place for going the wrong way on a one-way street.
