Wednesday, November 29, 2017

BAINBRIDGE — Cloverdale improved to 7-1 on the season with a 61-22 win over North Putnam on Tuesday night in girls’ high school basketball action.

The Clovers led 15-6 after one period, 27-9 at halftime and 53-13 after three quarters.

Tori Combs led Cloverdale with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Arianna McCracken added 11 points and Sammie Shrum and Abby Walker each added nine points.

“Coach [Jarrod] Duff of North Putnam did a good job of slowing down the game in the first half,” Cloverdale coach Matthew Langdon said. “Both quarters we were below average, and they did a good job of slowing things down. I’m very proud of our girls for coming out strongly in the second half and played well in the third quarter.

“We had some different looks than we’ve gotten,” he said. “I was really happy with our second unit. They came in and played most of the fourth quarter, and moved the ball around really well. It’s great to see girls who work hard get that work to pay off.”

Langdon’s team will travel to Edgewood on Friday for its Western Indiana Conference opener.

“We know they will play good, man-to-man defense,” he said. “Edgewood is an excellent team. Our side of the conference is very challenging, and we’re looking forward to playing well and getting that first conference win.”

North Putnam had balanced scoring, with nine different players reaching the scoring column. Clarissa Gibson had four points to pace the Cougars, while Hannah Sims and Dana Tennis each added three.

  • Thought NP would at least be competitive this year, looks like I was wrong. Eminence, Turkey Run, where are you?
