CLOVERDALE -- Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a request for assistance Wednesday afternoon by a citizen who flagged them down, stating her house was on fire in Putnam County.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers Cpl. Dale Clark and Master Officer Mike Gregg were on patrol near Lincoln Avenue and Robert Weist Road in Cloverdale.

The officers located the source of the fire and Cpl. Clark deployed his state-issued fire extinguisher, suppressing the fire.

Officers subsequently Clark and Gregg verified everyone was safely out of the home.

Cause of the fire is under investigation but observations in the home led authorities to believe it was electrical in nature.

Other agencies responding to the incident included the Cloverdale Fire Department.

“It is policy that our officers have a serviced fire extinguisher on hand and readily available while on patrol,” Lt. Kent Hutchins, District 5 commander, Indiana Conservation Officers, said. “We are thankful they were in the right place at the right time.”
