SAWs completes ninth year of service with 22 more ramps

Friday, December 8, 2017

SAWs (Servants at Work), the mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church that builds handicap ramps, steps and safety rails for the financially challenged in Putnam County, completed its 2017 build season on Nov. 11.

This year SAWs completed 22 ramps and projects providing improved home access to residents of Putnam County. That brings the total ramps built in nine years of service to 159.

SAWs ramps are prioritized in the order that they are requested. So some of its clients who wait too late to call run the risk of SAWs not being able to accommodate their needs in the year requested. For this reason potential clients are encouraged to call as soon as possible for help in 2018.

If you or a friend is in need of help accessing your home, contact SAWs at 653-5713, email at churchoffice@cinergymetro.net or find SAWs at Facebook at www.facebook.com/SAWSGreencastle.

Qualified requesters can receive a ramp, low-rise steps or safety rails at no cost from SAWs.

As it completes its ninth year of providing help to the handicapped in Putnam County, SAWs would like to thank everyone who has supported the mission by volunteering to work or giving monetary donations. A special thanks is made to the Putnam County Community Foundation, 100 Men Who Care, Headley Hardware, the Greencastle Eagles FOE 4388, First National Bank/Cloverdale, the Rotary Club of Greencastle, Stardust Hills Homeowners Association, Van Bibber Lake Homeowners Association, the WILL Center, Greencastle Presbyterian Church, Greencastle Christian Church, Hopkins-Rector and Bittles & Hurt funeral homes, the Putnam County Fair and all the other citizens and business organizations that have supported SAWs in 2017.

Support from members of the community in the form of continued donations and the help of volunteers to build the ramps is vital to the future success of SAWs. For this reason SAWs is again requesting the continued support of the community in 2018.
