Boys

Southmont (4-3) at Greencastle (3-1)

The coaches: Southmont’s Jake Walker is in his first week as interim coach following the resignation of Jon Sparks earlier this week. Bryce Rector is in his second year at Greencastle.

So far: Southmont beat Turkey Run 83-33 and North Putnam 62-55, lost 64-60 to Cascade, beat Delphi 80-72 and North Montgomery 63-55, lost 69-61 to Cloverdale and lost 85-56 to Danville. Greencastle beat Crawfordsville 51-44, lost 60-42 to Class 3A No. 11 Danville and beat West Vigo 53-43 and South Putnam 51-43.

Per-game averages (through Friday): Offense — Southmont 68.2, Greencastle 48.7. Defense — Southmont 58.0, Greencastle 49.0.

Opponents’ records (through Friday): Southmont 9-14, Greencastle 4-6.

History: Greencastle won 61-42 at New Market last year. Southmont holds a 15-13 advantage over the last 30 years.

Cloverdale (2-2) at Monrovia (3-0)

The coaches: Patrick Rady is in his third year at Cloverdale. Kyle Swofford is in his second year at Monrovia.

So far: Cloverdale lost 93-65 to Terre Haute South and 78-60 to Edgewood and defeated Southmont 69-61 and Indian Creek 77-75. Monrovia has defeated Eminence 69-36, Cascade 55-42 and Speedway 60-59.

Per-game averages (through Friday): Offense — Cloverdale 64.7, Monrovia . Defense — Cloverdale 77.3, Monrovia

Opponents’ records (through Friday): Cloverdale 7-5, Monrovia 3-7.

History: Cloverdale won 74-61 in last year’s sectional. Monrovia holds a 25-17 series lead over the past 30 years.

Key players: Max Newman, a 6-7 junior, leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 18.0 and in rebounding at 13.5 (through Friday).

MONDAY

Girls

No. 9 Owen Valley (10-0) at South Putnam (7-2)

The coaches: Trace Temples is in his second year at Owen Valley. Brian Gardner is in his third year at South Putnam.

So far: The Patriots won their 10th straight game on Friday night with a 62-50 WIC victory over Brown County. South Putnam lost 63-58 on Friday night to Greencastle, which has handed the Eagles both losses this year.

Per-game averages (through Friday): Offense — OV 61.2, SP 51.6. Defense — OV 28.8, SP 42.8.

Opponents’ records (through Friday): Owen Valley 38-55, South Putnam 45-35.

History: Owen Valley won 55-39 on its homecourt last yaer, and has a 9-5 lead in the series between the teams in the past 15 years.

Key players: Senior Payton Cattorini (17.6) and junior Dazia Drake (15.0) lead the Patriots in scoring.
