Cougar boys win third straight; Tiger Cub girls fall to Monrovia

CAYUGA — North Putnam continued to get good balanced scoring on Saturday night, defeating North Vermillion 53-44 in boys’ varsity action for its third straight win.

Caleb Duncan hit five 3-pointers for 15 points to lead the Cougars, while Elliot Gross and Andrew Pickel each had 11 points and Treyton Smith and James Duncan each added eight.

North Vermillion led 10 -7 after one quarter, but the Cougars took command for a 24-21 halftime lead.

North Putnam led 35-33 after three quarters.

• Monrovia 51, Greencastle 48 (girls) — Greencastle led Monrovia 24-22 at halftime, but was outscored in each of the final two quarters in falling to the Bulldogs.

Greencastle led 12-8 after one quarter before the two-point halftime lead, but was outscored 12-8 in the third period as Monrovia took a 34-32 lead at athe final stop.

The Bulldogs won a high-scoring fourth period by a 17-16 margin.

Jalyn Duff led Greencastle with 13 points, while Bailey Shuee added 12 and Seelye Stoffregen had nine.
