Cloverdale Schools starting the year off right

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board accepted a grant and a donation and heard good news about school corporation investments during its first regular meeting of 2018.

The board accepted the Title IV Grant in the amount of $70,000. Superintendent Greg Linton said the funds couldn’t be used to purchase equipment, but would still be used for technology integration and professional development.

The board also accepted a $500 donation from McCammon Agency Corporation to purchase additional chromebooks for the elementary school.

Lastly, Superintendent Linton reported during the annual finance meeting that the corporation received $21,005.85 in interest on three accounts this year, and ended 2017 with about $7.1 million in total funds.

In other news:

-- Board Compensation: The board voted to set compensation at $2,000 per year (the maximum allowed by state law) for each board member.

-- Claims: The board approved claims at a total of $691,902.27.

-- Officers: The board made the following officer nominations: Vivian Whitaker for president, Daniel Hoffman for vice president and Donna Fidler for secretary. The board also appointed Mendy Shrout corporation treasurer, Lynn Lotz deputy treasurer and Lewis and Kappes corporation attorney.

-- Personnel: The board approved the following personnel report:

-- Hire: Cole Seward (CMS math teacher), Jade Asher (CES instructional assistant) and Pat Kirby (CES/CMS part-time cafeteria), Kent Bass (CHS varsity head baseball coach), Kurt Kyle (CMS head wrestling coach) and Lori Halloran (CMS assistant wrestling coach)

-- Policy: The board approved Volume 29 No. 2, Phase II and Phase III

-- Students of the Month: The January Students of the Month were Keenan Mowery-Shields (third grade), Harleigh Peck (sixth grade) and Taylor Belcher (junior).

The Cloverdale School Board’s next regular meeting is set for Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Arthur C. Johnson Administration Building at 401 E. Logan St.
