County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 8:24 p.m. Charles Brent Shurig, 53, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 4:10 p.m. Joshua Henry-Lawrence Johnson, 29, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 11:36 a.m. Joshua James Wright, 27, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for court order.

• At 10:07 a.m. Chelsea Rose Gallagher, 26, Greencastle, was booked in for contempt of court.

• At 9:34 a.m. Orie Montgomery Cheatham, 36, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated eight recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:24 a.m. on Tuesday, William D. Price, 48, Cloverdale, was northbound on County Road 275 East when his 2006 GMC Sierra left the roadway.

It was extremely foggy and Price told Deputy Josh Boller he remembered a left-hand turn just ahead but was unable to slow his truck in time to make the curve.

The pickup hit several trees, causing extensive damage.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Travis W. Bridgewater, 30, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 375 West near County Road 875 South in a 2007 Ford F150.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman noted that Bridgewater struck a patch of ice and slid off the road, hitting a tree head on.

Bridgewater left the truck at the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. When Freeman made contact with him, Bridgewater said he didn’t know he was supposed to inform law enforcement of a crash.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 6 p.m. on Monday, Glenda C. Haste, 72, North Salem, was southbound on County Road 900 East near County Road 900 North in a 2002 Buick Le Sabre.

Haste told Deputy Freeman she lost control in the icy conditions and hit a concrete bridge.

The driver was not injured.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 5:41 a.m. on Monday, Lorrie A. Ruble, 43, Bainbridge, was southbound on County Road 625 East just south of County Road 675 North when she lost control of her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Ruble told Deputy Josh Boller she approached the top of the hill and lost control while making a right-hand turn. The vehicle started to spin and left the road.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 5:37 a.m. Kayla A. Gregg, 27, Roachdale, was northbound on County Road 250 East in a 2007 Ford Taurus when she lost control. The car slid off the east side of the road.

Deputy Boller said there were no visible signs of damage to the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

• At 5:20 a.m. on Monday, Robert E. Joslyn, 25, Carbon, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 750 South in a 2009 Dodge Dakota. Joslyn was attempting to pass a 2016 Volvo semi tractor-trailer driven by Dan E. Targett, 43, Brazil.

Joslyn told Deputy Freeman that as he tried to pass, he lost control and hit the side of the trailer before coming to rest in the grass median.

The pickup suffered moderate damage to much of the vehicle and was towed. The trailer only had minor damage.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, Paula K. Jones, 32, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 near County Road 500 East in a 1998 Infiniti QX4 when she lost control on the icy roadway.

The vehicle entered the ditch, hitting a fence and then a telephone pole.

Jones sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hendricks Regional.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Meghan J. Dickey, 20, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 200 North in a 2007 BMW 329 when she lost control on the icy road. The car left the road and hit a tree.

Dickey’s family took her to Putnam County Hospital.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
