Winter weather advisory to continue through Friday evening

With colder weather and precipitation expected to roll into Indiana overnight Thursday into Friday morning, the wave was expected to continue into Friday night in the form of a winter weather advisory for much of Central Indiana, lasting until 10 p.m. Friday.

The advisory, which includes Putnam, all of its directly surrounding counties, as well as several others farther north, called for freezing ran and snow.

“Low pressure passing south of Indiana along with the arrival of a cold front will result in freezing rain on early Friday before changing over to snow during the day on Friday,” according to information from the Nationl Weather Service.

“The combination of ice from the freezing rain and light snow on Friday will result difficult driving situations.”

The Weather Service was calling for snow and sleet accumulations of up to two inches, as well as ice up to one-tenth of an inch.

Any accumulation is can be expected to stay around for a few days, with high temperatures expected around 20 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, and no temperatures above freezing projected for the next several days.

The worst of the winter storm was expected to pass to the south of our area, with a full-fledged winter storm warning for parts of southwestern Indiana.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
