Florence J. Smith

Florence J. Smith, 92, of Lafayette, passed away at 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at Rosewalk Commons.

The daughter of the late Henry and Bessie (Crose) Bogan, she was born on March 7, 1925 in Stockwell, Ind.

Florence's marriage was to Clinton H. Smith in 1946 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death.

Professionally, Florence was the vice president of the comptroller department at the former Indiana National Bank from which she retired.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Florence enjoyed playing cards with friends, bowling and gardening. She loved spending time with family and Chicago nut balls. Florence was an avid Larry Bird and Scottie Pippen fan.

Florence leaves behind six nieces, Dorothy (husband Jack) Schmeltz, Patsy (husband Paul) Brown, Gloria (husband Richard) Cook, Dixie (husband Larry) Haltom, Mary (husband Jeff) Hyatt and Sherry Harris; nephew Larry Holt; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Florence is preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Newhouser, Fern Holt, Faye Sparks and Frieda Bogan, and an infant brother, Freddie Bogan.

Private family service will be at a later date.

In lieu of usual remembrances direct memorial contributions to Community Cancer Network.
