CLOVERDALE — Having driven at least 11 miles while missing a tire on his box truck, a Camby man was arrested early Friday morning for operating while intoxicated.

With the resulting flying sparks and road gouges, it is unclear how 25-year-old Bryan Eli Sical-Estrada kept the vehicle on the road for so long, especially after he tested at .15 blood alcohol content on a blood test.

Sical-Estrada was arrested by Deputy Robert Soilleux and booked in the Putnam County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated.

A witness who had been driving westbound on Interstate 70 in another vehicle told Soilleux he was around the 54-mile marker when he saw the white box truck westbound in the fast lane without a front driver side tire.

The man said the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving back and forth initially in the fast lane and then across both westbound lanes before finally driving off the north side of the road and entering a ditch, where it became stuck in the mud.

The witness further said that sparks were shooting off the truck for several miles before Sical-Estrada finally lost control.

The man said he then stopped to check on the welfare of the driver and to make sure he didn’t try to leave the scene, as he believed the man was drunk.

Soilleux arrived on the scene finding gouge marks in the interstate that led to the spot where the 2005 Chevrolet CT3 was in the ditch.

As for the truck, Soilleux reported, “There was no front driver side tire and very little rim left, with no sign of any tire debris.”

Upon the deputy’s arrival, Sical-Estrada exited the truck and stumbled as he walked. Soilleux said he could also smell a strong odor of alcohol while speaking to Sical-Estrada.

Sical-Estrada told Soilleux he heard a bang and screeching noise while driving from Indianapolis to Terre Haute. He said he did not know what to do so he tried calling his boss on his cell phone and continued westbound. The driver then said he thought a tire must have blown and he tried to pull over to the side of the road, which resulted in him driving off the road and getting stuck.

Sical-Estrada said he did not get in a crash, but just drove off the roadway. He said he was not injured and refused medical aid. He told the deputy he just wanted to get going so he could get to his hotel room in Terre Haute and go to bed.

However, Soilleux administered standardized field sobriety testing, which Sical-Estrada failed. He also tested at .14 on a portable breath test. He then agreed to a certifed breath test at the Putnam County Jail but Soilleux said he refused to follow instructions or provide a strong breath sample.

He was then taken to Putnam County Hospital, where he consented to a blood draw. His blood alcohol content was found to be .158 percent at 6:21 a.m., about 2-1/2 hours after the incident.

Sical-Estrada was booked in the jail at 7:20 a.m. On Monday, he was formally charged with two Class A misdemenaors and one Class C misdemeanor in the incident.
