ISP vehicle shows minor front-end damage.

Just after 10 a.m. Saturday, Indiana State Police and Greencastle Police Department officers responded to a disturbance in Greencastle's South End that resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old Parke County woman.

Jami Busbin

ISP Sgt. James Hayes was reportedly in the area of 415 Elm St. when he noticed a disturbance between four occupants of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Preliminary investigation revealed that as Sgt. Hayes approached the vehicle to investigate, the Chrysler suddenly lunged forward and struck his 2016 ISP Dodge Ram pickup.

The occupants were detained and it was later determined that the driver, Jami M. Busbin of Rockville, was in possession of approximately two grams of Spice and two items of paraphernalia.

Busbin was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on charges of possession of a lookalike drug and possession of paraphernalia, both Class A misdemeanors.

Busbin vehicle towed from Elm Street scene.

An additional traffic citation for unsafe lane movement was issued. Other occupants were released from the scene.

Prior to her incarceration, Busbin was medically checked at Putnam County Hospital.

The incident was investigated by ISP Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden and Greencastle City Police officers.

  • Wow, I think I've seen that car around VBL. You would think at her age, she would know better.

  • Just asking -- why in this case were the other occupants sent on their way and in another case everyone in the car is arrested? There doesn't seem to be consistent application of the law. This isn't a isolated case but over several cases it seems like a tennis match, first we arrest all, then we let the passengers go, next time all are arrested?

  • Trying hard....If the other occupants didn’t have drugs or paraphernalia on them or a warrant, there wouldn’t be a reason to hold them. If drugs are in the vehicle, then all could go to jail. Apparently, the driver was the only person to be in possession.
