Wilson’s 3,200 was ninth best in state history

BLOOMINGTON — Greencastle’s track and field teams competed in their first indoor meet of the season on Wednesday at Indiana University’s Gladstein Fieldhouse.

“It went very well, and I was impressed with the way that our athletes competed and supported one another,” GHS coach Craig Jordan said. “We had several athletes break their personal best marks.”

Keeghan McLain cleared 4-8 in the high jump which was a two-inch personal best for her, while Claire Gillen and Jada Amis finished third and fourth in the shot in 36-2 and 35-5.5.

“I believe that will be enough to qualify them for the Hoosier State Relays,” Jordan said. “I think our girls distance medley relay (Sydney Kallem, Kennedy Trigg, Mika Mozawa, Emma Wilson) will also be able to qualify for HSR with their performance of 13:37.”

Emma Wilson ran a personal-best time of 10:29 in the 3,200, which is the ninth fastest of all-time for Indiana high school girls.

“She is very fit right now and I think she has a great shot to break the indoor state record of 10:19 if she is to pace better next time out,” Jordan said.

On the men’s side, Jordan noted his team lost its “big hitters” from last year.

“We have a lot of new faces on the men’s side so are trying to figure things out and see who is going to step up,” he said. “We had several guys not competing. Ben Gellman is just getting back into the swing of things but ran 5:04 in the 1,600 which was awesome.”

Jordan note that Leo Weeks and Ben Wilkerson are new to the sport but “showed promise.” Weeks managed a 5:18 in the 1,600, while Ben Wilkerson ran 11:40 for 3,200 after going out in 5:25.

“We’re going to regroup and get back to practice in preparation for our next indoor meet on March 16 at DePauw,” Jordan said.
