A 27-year-old Greencastle man has been arrested and charged with sexual misconduct as a result of a reported late December incident involving a 15-year-old Putnam County girl.

Richard Jordan

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail after his weekend arrest, Richard A. "Richie" Jordan is charged with the Level 4 felony sexual misconduct with a minor and a Class A misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A Level 4 felony is punishable by 2-12 years in prison.

The alleged Dec. 23 incident has been under investigation since first being reported to Greencastle City Police on Christmas Day when the girl's stepfather advised GPD Officer Kyle Lee a male in his late 20s had befriended his stepdaughter and had sexual relations with the juvenile. The incident reportedly occurred at the Greencastle residence of the girl's biological father.

The victim told police that she and Jordan had also smoked marijuana, which is the basis for the charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She also admitted to consuming alcohol with Jordan during their time together.

A number of guests were also at the West Side residence for an impromptu party the night the incident allegedly took place. At least two of those people in attendance reported advising Jordan that the girl he was paying attention to was only 15 years old, according to statements in the probable cause affidavit in the case.

Relatives of the juvenile victim also reported seeing the suspect without pants and the girl in varying stages of undress as they passed by an upstairs bedroom, court documents note.

Attempting to locate more information on Jordan after becoming aware of the incident, the girl's stepdad searched the suspect's name in the online edition of the Banner Graphic, finding a Putnam scanner listing that showed Jordan had been arrested earlier in December for unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony.

A pretrial conference in both cases against Jordan is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 25 in Putnam Superior Court.

During an initial hearing Monday, Austin Malayer was assigned as Jordan's public defender in the new case.
