County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 2:05 p.m. James Edwards Nichols Sr., 66, Lawrence, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:34 p.m. Brian Craig Melton, 35, Plainfield, was booked in on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 11:25 p.m. Sara Ann Trivett-Long, 29, Poland, was lodged at the jail on three writs of body attachment.

• At 3:37 p.m. Blake David Russell, 22, Avon, was taken into custody for carrying a handgun without a license and possession of methamphetamine.

• At 4:27 p.m. Bailey Jordan McKinney, 23, Advance, was housed at the jail for visiting a common nuisance.

• At 3:17 p.m. Jessica M. Ottinger, 23, Sheridan, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, visiting a common nuisance and on a Marion County warrant.

• At 1:56 p.m. Melissa Mae Henry, 38, Linden, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 11:24 a.m. Raad S. Al-Murshidy, 31, Dearborn Heights, Mich., was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 9:57 a.m. Bryan Lee Polster, 42, Mooresville, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 11:54 p.m. Wednesday, Tyler David O’Clair, 20, Salina, Kan., was arrested by Officer Zach Rhine on Vine Street near Walnut Street.

O’Clair, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, is being held on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

He was also wanted on a pair of local warrants, including one for conspiracy to commit straw purchase of a handgun and another for possession of marijuana.

Two drivers were injured and two vehicles were listed as total losses following a recent accident investigated by Greencastle officers.

• At 6:42 a.m. Tuesday, a two-car accident occurred at Warren Drive and State Road 240, Officer Darrel Bunten reported.

Debra Lewzader, 51, Greencastle, was eastbound on the highway, driving a 2007 Nissan Xterra, when she noticed that a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Frank O’Conner, 72, Greencastle, was stopped at the stopsign at Warren Drive, poised to cross the road southbound.

Lewzader said O’Conner pulled suddenly moved forward and stopped and then pulled forward again before accelerating in an attempt to cross the highway.

Lewzader said she was unable to avoid a collision as O’Conner pulled out in front of her vehicle, resulting in total damage to both cars estimated in excess of $10,000.

O’Conner, who complained of left knee pain, was transported to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, via Operation Life with reported cardiac concerns. He had to be extricated from his vehicle.

Lewzader complained of head, neck and knee pain following the accident.

Officer Bunten was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Ed Wilson and Officer Josh Smith.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Anita Cundiff, 45, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 40, attempting to turn left onto Apple Blossom Lane in a 2002 Toyota Camry.

Cundiff told Deputy Riley Houghton her vision was inhibited by the sun, so she proceeded to make her left turn, striking an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Sheri L. Archer, 48, Brazil.

Archer told Houghton she did not have time to avoid the collision.

Cundiff was evaluated at the scene for injuries. Archer and her son were transported to Putnam County Hospital by Operation Life.

Both vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 6:07 a.m. on Wednesday, Joseph A. Ping, 20, Roachdale, was northbound on County Road 250 East in a 2014 Hyundai Elantra when he lost control on the icy road, leaving the road and hitting a concrete post.

Ping told Deputy Josh Boller he was traveling about 30 mph at the time of the accident.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 4:51 p.m. on Sunday, Angela C. Lawless, 31, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 175 East, approaching County Road 450 North in a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, when she lost control and hit a utility pole.

Deputy Anthony Brown estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

• At 7:34 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, William Denny, 56, Roachdale, was eastbound on County Road 900 North, just west of County Road 900 West in a 2005 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Brown estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.
