County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• Devin Ray Willard, 29, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

• Charles Bentley, 27, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a petition to revoke bond and a local warrant.

• Christopher Campbell, 42, Greencastle, was booked in for failure to appear.

• Joshua Stephens, 38, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Nathan Williams, 23, Greencastle, was arrested at the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road by Sgt. Ed Wilson.

Williams was charged with theft for allegedly taking CO2 cartridges without paying for them.

According to the police report, Williams and another man reportedly ditched other items they were carrying into a shopping cart before store loss prevention personnel and police could catch them. Only Williams was charged and lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

He is facing charges of theft, criminal trespass, possession of methamphetamine, trafficking with a penal facility and a petition to revoke probation.

• At 3:03 a.m. Sunday, Matthew Cheatham, 32, Greencastle, was arrested on Keightly Road, the main access to the Putnam County Jail, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Officer Luke Brown reported finding Cheatham passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle with the engine running and his foot on the brake.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Cheatham registered a .249 percent blood-alcohol content under breathalyzer testing. That is more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent in Indiana.

One recent traffic citation was issued by Greencastle officers.

• At 11:31 a.m. Monday, Dustin Sutherlin, 25, Greencastle, was ticketed for speeding by Capt. Chris Jones.

Stopped along Percy Julian Drive, Sutherlin was cited for 35 mph in a 20-mph school zone.
