South Putnam Community School Corporation has scheduled its annual kindergarten orientation for the 2018-19 school year for Wednesday, April 4 at Fillmore Elementary and Thursday, April 12 at Central Elementary.

Students and parents should attend the orientation session of the school they will be attending in the fall. A variety of information and activities are scheduled. Parents are asked to arrive promptly at the start time of the session they plan to attend.

Persons should contact their respective school if they have a child who needs to be enrolled but are otherwise unable to attend the orientation sessions.

Kindergarten orientation is scheduled for:

Fillmore Elementary -- Wednesday, April 4 from 5-7 p.m.

Phone: 246-6136

Central Elementary -- Thursday, April 12.

-- 4 p.m. for students with last names beginning A-M.

-- 6 p.m. for students with last names beginning N-Z.

Phone: 653-6175

A child must be five years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018 to be eligible to attend kindergarten next year. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018 except for those children who attended a year of kindergarten previously in another school corporation.

During orientation, a preschool screening check will be administered to each child. All children must be screened before being admitted to kindergarten for the first time. Those children who are not screened during the orientation will be screened the first week of enrolling their child in kindergarten this fall.

Parents must present the child's official birth certificate and immunization record as required by law. (An official birth certificate may be obtained from the Board of Health in the county in which your child was born). Records will be copied and returned to parents.

Each school is taking a survey to determine the number of students who will be participating in orientation. Persons are asked to notify the school if they have a child or know of a child that will be entering school next year.
