For many families, their second biggest monthly expense behind their mortgage is child care.

As one of several organizations in town seeking to offer a loving and safe child care environment, Greencastle Presbyterian Church and Round Barn Daycare are inviting the public to Greencastle Presbyterian on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for a conversation with Barb Newton, director of First Presbyterian Preschool in Columbus and president of the state’s Registered Ministry Advisory Board.

With more than 20 years of experience as a director, Newton has seen firsthand recent changes to early childhood care and education. She has also helped start a community association in the Columbus area to open up channels between public schools, child care centers and the community.

Newton will also be sharing about her own center’s journey with the Paths to Quality program, a statewide program whose goal is to help families and children have the best child care experience possible.

The talk offers an opportunity for other childcare directors or staff in the area to learn more about Paths to Quality. Newton will present on her own experience and take time for questions.

The program is free of charge, and light snacks will be offered.

Registration is not required but would be helpful for planning purposes. Contact Pastor Wes Kendall at 653-5713 or at pastor@cinergymetro.net.

Greencastle Presbyterian Church is located at 653 S. CR 100 East, Greencastle.
