Second Candidate Forum to involve state, U.S. representative hopefuls

Friday, April 6, 2018

The second of two Candidate Forums in advance of the 2018 primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10.

The Greencastle League of Women Voters, WGRE radio and the Banner-Graphic are co-sponsoring the 7 p.m. event to be staged at Watson Forum of the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media, 609 S. Locust St., on the DePauw University campus.

The program also will be broadcast live on WGRE radio (91.5 FM) and on Greencastle's local cable access Channel 3.

The forum will feature candidates running for the Indiana House of Representatives, District 44, and the U.S. House of Representatives, District 4.

All candidates for District 44 state representative -- Republicans Beau Baird and Jess Norton and Democrat Kim Fidler -- have confirmed their intended appearances Tuesday. Baird and Norton will debate, while Fidler, unopposed in the primary, will be allowed three minutes to address the forum.

In the District 4 U.S. House race, those announced as planning to attend are Republicans Steve Braun, James Nease, Tim Radice and Jared Thomas along with Democrats Tobi Beck, Roger Day, Darin Griesey, Joe Mackey and Veronikka Ziol. Meanwhile, there has been no response from GOP candidates Jim Baird, Kevin Grant and Diego Morales or Democrat Roland Ellis, League officials said.

At the conclusion of the forum, audience members will be allowed to ask questions of the candidates. Refreshments will be available.
