TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek improved to 2-0 as Cloverdale dropped the opening game of the softball season 5-3 to the defending WIC champions on Thursday.

“It was an OK start for a young team with so many new faces in the lineup,” Clover coach Jim Spencer said. “Everyone just needs to get a little better in all aspects of the game as we play the first part of our schedule.”

Makenzie Allen had a single and a double to pace the Clovers at the place, while Kiley Shedron had two singles and an RBI and Macie Couch and Morgan Goss each hit a single.

Baseball

• Indian Creek 12, Cloverdale 0 (5 inn.) – At Trafalgar, first-year Clover coach Kent Bass found out some areas where his team needs to improve.

“It helped us see what we need to work on,” he said. “We just need the weather to get better so we can get outside to practice.”

The Braves got six unearned runs in the first three innings, and Bass thought junior Jarron Rossok did a good job.

“He pitched the whole game and did an excellent job,” Bass said. “When I sat down with the pitchers last week I told them they just need to throw strikes. Jarron did that and only walked one guy. We just have to step up and play better defense.”

Haiden Harbert had the only hit for the Clovers, who struck out 13 times.

“Indian Creek is a very good baseball team and when we made an error they took advantage of it,” Bass said. “Offensively we have to put the ball in play better and put some pressure on their defense.”
