Moore, York earn AP high honorable mention all-state honors; South's Stein also honored

Seniors Jalen Moore of Cloverdale and Colin York of Greencastle were honored on Wednesday by the Associated Press on its all-state basketball team.

Moore and York were both given high honorable mention.

South Putnam's Lillie Stein was given honorable mention on the girls' all-state team after leading the Eagles to their second straight sectional title.

Moore had a lengthy list of accomplishments this year:

His list of accomplishments includes:

• State’s leading scorer at 36.8 points per game

• Tied school record for single-game scoring with 53 points against Greencastle

• Set state records with 321 made free throws and 374 attempted free throws

• Total of 1,031 points is third-highest in a single season in state history

• Finished in 11th place overall in Indiana career scoring with 2,440 points (also second best in school and Putnam County history)

• Named to Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Small School All-State first team and all-Western Indiana Conference team

• Led team to third straight Putnam County title and fourth straight sectional title

• Helped team to 83-28 record in his four-year career

For the season, Moore also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 47 per cent from the field (30 percent from 3-point range) and 86 percent from the free throw line.

York averaged 21.6 points and 3.1 assists per game this season.

Colin York

The Franklin College commit shot 44 percent from the field this year, including 39 percent from 3-point range, and also shot 85 percent from the free throw line. York averaged 2.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

His list of accomplishments includes:

• Finished third in Greencastle in career scoring with 1,419 points

• Finished as Greencastle career leader in 3-point field goals with 220

• Earned honorable mention honors on IBCA Small School All-State team and all-Western Indiana Conference honors

• Set individual high game of 40 points against Cloverdale

• Helped team more than double its win total from the previous season (from eight to 17)

Stein led the county in scoring at 16.8 points per game, and also pulled down 6.3 rebounds per game. She averaged 3.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from 3-point range and 58 percent from the free-throw line.

Lillie Stein

Her season highs were 27 points against Cloverdale, 26 points against Riverton Parke and Clay City and 24 points against Greencastle and Rockville. Stein hit a season-high total of five 3-pointers against Riverton Parke and Cloverdale, 13 rebounds against Greencastle, eight assists against Monrovia and Eminence and seven steals against West Vigo and Eminence.

Stein was previously named to the all-Western Indiana Conference team and the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association first-team “Small School” all-state team.
