I-70 traffic stop results in fraudulent credit card arrests

PUTNAMVILLE -- Stopping an eastbound car for speeding and erratic passing on Interstate 70 in western Putnam County Wednesday afternoon, Indiana State Police arrested two men on charges related to possession of fraudulent credit cards.

Items confiscated in arrest along Interstate 70 Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, a State Police trooper from the Putnamville Post stopped a 2018 Nissan Maxima eastbound near the 35-mile marker of I-70, six miles west of Cloverdale.

During subsequent conversations with the occupants, information was developed that led to a search of the vehicle, State Police said.

Inside the car and on the suspects' person were one computer, one credit card imprinter, one credit card embosser, fake identification and credit cards, and numerous items believed to have been purchased with fake credit cards.

The fake cards were believed to have been used at various locations in the states of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri.

Arrested and local in the Putnam County Jail were:

-- The driver, Joseph A. Moon, 25, of Louisville, Ky. Moon was charged with eight felony counts of conspiracy to commit fraud.

-- A passenger, Xavier D. Smith, 24, address unknown at this time, was charged with eight felony counts of fraud and one misdemeanor count of having a fraudulent government document.

In addition to original charges, Smith produced a fake identification card to the troopers.

Assisting State Police at the scene were deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
