Hospital Guild lauded for continuing volunteer efforts

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

April 15-22 is National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week began in 1974 as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers.

Since then, the original emphasis on celebration has widened and the week has become a nationwide effort to urge people to get out and volunteer in their communities.

Putnam County Hospital is taking this time to thank its Guild members for their volunteered time and dedication to the hospital.

The Guild has been serving the hospital long before the move to the 1542 Bloomington St., Greencastle, location in 1979. Today its members stock and operate the gift shop located to the right of the hospital’s main information desk. Gourmet candies, jewelry and extensive selections of “scrubs” and shoes can periodically be found in one of the PCH lobby areas.

All proceeds from these events find their way to either the Putnam County Health Careers Scholarship Fund housed at the Community Foundation or to answer special needs the hospital may have. This year a donation will be used to help complete the furnishings in the waiting room area at PCH. The Guild has contributed $31,000 over the past two years to the scholarship fund.

With 50 volunteers, the Guild acts as goodwill ambassadors for the hospital, people who unselfishly give of their time and talents; and people whose efforts bring generous donations to the hospital and to health career scholarships

If you wish to become a Guild member, you may pick up an application at the Hospital Gift Shop.
