Two men injured in one-vehicle U.S. 40 crash

A 2006 Ford pickup, driven by Tyler L. Peters, 21, Vincennes, was westbound U.S. 40, pulling a trailer loaded with a residential mower. When the trailer suddenly began to weave, Peters lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled over. A blown trailer tire may have been the cause, State Police said.

PUTNAMVILLE -- Two men were injured in a one-vehicle accident Wednesday on U.S. 40 in western Putnam County.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a pickup truck crash on westbound U.S. 40 near County Road 325 West.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Ford pickup, driven by 21-year-old Tyler L. Peters of Vincennes, was westbound U.S. 40, pulling a trailer loaded with a residential mower. When the trailer suddenly began to weave, Peters lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled over.

A blown trailer tire may have been the cause, State Police said.

Peters and his 20-year-old passenger, Kenneth A. Smothers of Terre Haute, were both transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Putnam County Operation Life paramedics.

Peters complained of arm pain and contusions. Smothers complained of a leg injury. Both men were cited for failure to wear seatbelts.

The crash was investigated by ISP Senior Trooper Johnny Myers. Assisting were Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden and personnel from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Operation Life, Reelsville Fire/Rescue and Seniours Towing.
