Steve Cash is seeking the 2nd District seat on the Putnam County Board of Commissioners and is the lone Democrat on the May 8 primary ballot.

“I believe the commissioner’s position needs someone who has displayed leadership,” Cash said. “From being South Putnam’s first president of the Honor Society to my current position as president of Putnam County Farm Bureau Inc. and those leadership roles in between, such as president of the South Putnam School Board, president of the Fair Board, president of Putnam County Leadership Academy, president of the Indiana Association of Public Education Foundations, president of the South Putnam Community Education Foundation, president of West Central Holstein Association and West Central DHIA, president of the Purdue Ag Ed Society and president of a bowling league.

“From my experience, I think I can provide the needed leadership,” Cash offered. “Part of that leadership will include thinking out of the box or at least out of the county in gathering new information to do a better job. Farm Bureau Agency Manager Chad Ferman says this, ‘My comment would surround the fact that whatever you apply yourself to and wherever your passions are, that you give 110 percent. The Putnam County board is not something that anyone has to do, and yet you can tell that you want to do everything in your power to make it as successful as possible.’”

Cash says he is a good listener.

“I will listen to your comments and put the time in to research their validity and find possible solutions,” the candidate said. “This is part of the reason I am running, as you can’t fix anything until you put yourself in a position to do so.”

Cash said he likes collaborative efforts, such as setting up an all-county school board meeting to improve communication.

“I have set up education roundtables for area superintendents and legislators to discuss education issues. I also set up the Legislative Update sessions to bring the legislators to Putnam County for our leaders to discuss with them potential laws.”

Having been born and raised in Putnam County Cash says he’s traveled nearly every road in the county through his agribusiness.

“I would really like to see the gravel roads addressed as they should be the easiest to fix but are the most ignored,” he said. “I meet monthly with area farmers who are quick to provide updated information. Today we need to address the side ditches almost as much as the roads themselves.”

He also addressed why he’s a Democrat.

“Well, my father was and my grandfather was,” Cash said. “I support education and agriculture. This kind of puts me in the middle, riding the fence in policies, but my support for the middle- and lower-class citizens of Putnam County tends to push me in one direction.

“Regardless of your party I would truly appreciate your support in November and your help in campaigning.”
