Ms. Slavens was the deli and bakery manager for Safeway Foods for 13 years, and worked in the foodservice industry her whole life.

Before her retirement in 2005 she worked with Putnam County Comprehensive Services, helping special needs children.

She enjoyed working puzzle books, playing cards and watching birds and deer, but most of all she loved her children grandchildren and her many fur babies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gerald Slavens; and her husband of 20 years, Truman Nelson Jr.

She will be cremated per her wishes. The family will plan a Celebration of Life Service to be held in June.
