Juveniles said responsible for DePauw Nature Park incident

Tuesday, May 1, 2018

The alleged perpetrators in one of a series of recent racist incidents on and around the DePauw University campus have been identified, according to an information bulletin sent to the DePauw community by Office of Public Safety Director Charlene Shrewsbury.

In a communique emailed to students and staff about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Shrewsbury shared "that the investigation into the racist rock formation in DePauw's Nature Park has been completed by the Office of Public Safety and the Greencastle Police Department."

The alleged perpetrators have been identified and because of their status as juveniles, their names are not being released to the public. The email did not reveal how many suspects were reportedly involved.

No-trespass orders against the individuals have been issued concerning all university property.

The case has been turned over to the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office, which is continuing its review of the incident.

Since mid-April students have been protesting campus incidents that have included:

* A racist threat in an Inn at DePauw restroom.

* A homophobic and anti-Semitic message also found in a restroom.

* An incident of a student displaying offensive behavior, reportedly wearing blackface, at The Fluttering Duck (the bar at The Inn at DePauw).

* The formation of the N-word by using rocks in the nature park.

* A racial slur scrawled on a toilet seat in another restroom.

Investigations into the offensive incidents are ongoing and the campus community is encouraged to share any information that may be helpful by emailing incident@depauw.edu.

  • I called it when this "story" first broke. What do I win?

I will be quite happy with a written apology from those that are active in and supported the BLM movement and associated riff-raff. (That would include the white-guilt marchers.)

Greencastle is NOT a racist town. DePauw (that I am aware of) is NOT a racist college campus.

Can you find racists here? Sure. Look hard enough, you can find them anywhere. (See those BLM people over there... I would venture a guess that they are harboring a few. Or is it merely "ethnocentricity" - and permissible - if its anyone other than a white person?)

MLK said we should judge others by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Maybe BLM and friends should give this idea a little more thought.
