PREP ROUNDUP: Hicks shoots 37 to pace Eagles over Rockville

CLOVERDALE — South Putnam hosted the Rox at Clover Meadows on Thursday in boys’ high school golf action and came away with the win, 181-184.

Medalist for the night was South’s Tyler Hicks, shooting a 37, with Moritz Scholl coming second place with 43.

Ryan Neumann added a 50, Lee Haywood had a 51 and Levi Girton and Thomas Fanning each shot a 53.

Tennis

• North Montgomery 5, Greencastle 0 — The Chargers won all five matches to record the win.

The Tiger Cubs fell to 3-8 on the season, and play next at Danville on Tuesday before hosting Owen Valley for senior night on Wednesday.

Softball

• Riverton Parke 6, Greencastle 5 — The Tiger Cubs scored four runs over the final two innings but fell one run short.

Greencastle scored one run in the first inning as Layna Robinson walked, stole second and came home on a double by Kenzie Horton.

Greencastle fell behind 6-1, but got three in the sixth to make it a game again. Horton led off the inning with a home run to right-center field.

One out later, Julia Mundy doubled and then came home on an single by Anna Chavez.

Chavez advanced on a passed ball, went to third on a Delaney Wright single and scored on an error.

The Cubs got their final run in the seventh as Horton Walked and scored as a result of two Panther errors. Greencastle left the bases loaded to end the game.

Horton was the only Cub with more than one hit. Macy Clark added a double for the Cubs.

Greencastle is now 4-11 on the season and plays next at North Putnam on Tuesday.

• Cloverdale 12, Eminence 2 — At Cloverdale, two school career hitting records fell as the Clovers improved to 7-5 on Friday.

Tori Combs hit her 10th career home run to set a new standard in that category, while Kiley Shedron had three RBI to go with a single and a double to establish a career record.

Macie Couch was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts, while Morgan Goss added two doubles and three RBI.

The Clovers will host Covenant Christian on Monday.

Track and field

• Eagles, Bruins split — South Putnam concluded its regular season on Thursday by splitting a pair of meets with Tri-West on Thursday.

South Putnam won the boys’ meet 96-30, while the Bruins won the girls’ meet 58-43.

The Eagles won all three relay races in the boys’ meet, and Tyler Scroggin was a double winner in the 400 and the pole vault.

The Eagles showed good depth by getting individual wins from seven other athletes.

In the girls’ event, Grace Burdge was a double winner for the Eagles in the 800 and 1,600, while Caitlin Capps won both throwing events.

• No. 11 Crawfordsville 12, North Putnam 1 — At Crawfordsville, the Athenians scored in every inning to defeat the Cougars.

Crawfordsville got only five hits, but took advantage of five Cougar errors.

North Putnam got its only run in the top of the third as Cole Shoemaker walked with one out, moved to second on a groundout and came home on a double by Hayden Rudes. Colton Clifford had a single in the fifth inning for North Putnam’s other hit.

In other baseball:

• Owen Valley 14, Greencastle 8 — At Spencer, the Cubs and Patriots were tied at 8-8 after three and a half innings, but the hosts came up with the final six runs to hold on for the victory.

Brody Whitaker scored Greencastle’s first run in the first inning, hitting a single, advancing on a wild pitch and an error and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Gus Manion.

In the second, Ethan Maier, Alex Costin and Bryce Barger walked to load the bases with one out. Jordan Meyer hit a sacrifice fly to score Maier, and Jacob Harris hit a double to plate the other two runners.

The Cubs got their final four runs in the fourth inning as Meyer doubled with one out and scored on a Whitaker single.

Nick Sutherlin followed with a single, and he and Whitaker both came home when Manion reached on an error.

Abe Wade singled to score Manion.Whitaker, Sutherlin and Meyer each had two hits, while Harris had two RBI.

Seven Tiger Cub errors led to six unearned OV runs.

The Cubs are now 3-13 and play at Southmont today.
