Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage accidents.

• At 11:25 a.m. on Monday, Katherine E. Bailey, 20, Crawfordsville, was northbound on County Road 250 East in a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo when she dropped her cigarette to the floorboard and reached down to pick it up.

Bailey told Deputy Robert Soilleux the next thing she remembered was the car spinning out of control and ending up in a field.

Soilleux said it appears from tire tracks that the car drove off the east side of the road and sideswiped a tree with the rear passenger door, causing the vehicle to spin.

Bailey refused medical aid.

Soilleux estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.
