Kaeff, NP 4x100 relay shine in WIC boys’ track

Cloverdale’s Tyler Kaeff and North Putnam’s 4x100 relay team provided the highlights for Putnam County athletes in Thursday evening’s Western Indiana Conference boys’ track and field meet.

Kaeff, who will run collegiately at DePauw University, blistered the 110-meter hurdles in 14.88 seconds to win the conference title and set a meet record. He also finished second to University of Indianapolis signee Zach Deurloo of Cascade in the 300 hurdles and was also second in the high jump.

North Putnam’s 4x100 relay team also finished first, beating runnerup Edgewood by half a second.

Other top performances on the night were North Putnam’s Scott Proctor (third in 100 and fourth in long jump), North Putnam’s Caleb Duncan (fourth in 1,600), Cloverdale’s Andrew Monnett (fourth in 300 hurdles), Greencastle’s Trever Wood (fifth in shot put), Greencastle’s Ben Gellman (fifth in 3,200), North Putnam’s Peyton Patterson (fifth in discus), South Putnam’s Christian Zeffel (fifth in high jump) and Cloverdale’s Blake Willis (third in pole vault).

Edgewood won the team title with 128.5 points, while Cloverdale was in a three-way tie for fifth with 54 to lead Putnam County squads.

North Putnam was eighth with 45 points, while South Putnam was 11th with 20 points and Greencastle was 12th with eight points.

Several familiar stars racked up multiple individual titles. Edgewood junior Austin Haskett completed a triple win in the distance events (800, 1,600 and 3,200), while Wake Forest signee Ethan Roach of West Vigo won the 100 and 200, Owen Valley’s Donnie Mader won both the shot put and the discus and Edgewood’s Noah Bise won both the long jump and the high jump.

Other titles were won by Sullivan’s Wes Bedwell in the pole vault and Edgewood’s John McGlothlin in the 400.

Brown County won the 4x800 relay and Edgewood won the 4x400 relay.

Sectionals will be run on Thursday.
