ELLETTSVILLE — Greencastle’s Jake Bennett shot a three-under-par 69 to lead the Tiger Cubs to an impressive 25-shot victory in the Western Indiana Conference tourney on Saturday at Rolling Meadows GC.

Bennett shot a two-under par 34 on the front nine and a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.

All five Tiger Cubs made all-conference as Jaxon Parmley shot a 75, Conner Taylor and Blaise Hasty each shot a 77 and Kyle Tesmer had an 80.

“Jaxon had his best scoring day of the season by shooting 38-37,” GHS coach Steve Paquin said. “Conner had 36-41, Blaise 39-38 and Kyle 39-41 to round out the scoring for the Cubs. The Cubs shot a blistering 147 on the front nine and a solid 151 on the back nine.”

Paquin credited his team’s consistency with greatly contributing to the win.

“This was a real team victory and shows how consistency makes the difference between the teams that only have one or two good players than a team with 5-6 consistent players,” he said. “This has been one of the team goals this season for the Cubs. We were pretty good in all phases — driving, iron play, chipping, and putting. The weather was warm and sunny, the course in playable condition, and a well-run tournament by the coach and staff of Owen Valley.”

Greencastle is finished with its tournament schedule, and has a few dual matches left before sectional play on June 1.

“The Cubs are peaking at the right time and are getting ready for a run at sectional and regional titles and possibly state qualifying,” Paquin said.

Cloverdale’s Drew Boyette finished 11th with a 79 to also earn all-WIC honors. Jason Miller added a 90 for the Clovers, while Michael Holsapple had a 93, Wyatt Helterbrand had a 98 and Tyler Harrison added a 103.

Cascade 175, Cloverdale 207 — Cascade’s Jackson Franchville shot a 37 to win medalist honors as the Cadets beat the Clovers on Monday.

“We always seem to have difficulty in this match, coming right after the county and conference matches,” Clover coach Doug Wokoun said. “This was certainly no exception. No one was really on his game, and it was very disappointing to see the progress that we had been making just go away.”

Drew Boyette led the Clovers with a 47, while Michael Holsapple shot a 50, Wyatt Helterbrand had a 51, Jason Miller had a 59 and Tyler Harrison added a 61.

“Drew played 17 great holes at the conference, but he got a bad start in this one and just never recovered,” Wokoun said. “He has had a very good season, but this was not his day. Wyatt played very well on most of the course Saturday, and played about the same. He had some pretty good holes, but a couple that really cost him.

“Jason had his best 18-hole round Saturday, but could not follow up,” Wokoun added. “He really struggled and didn’t find any consistency through the round. Michael had some of his best golf Saturday in the first nine, but fell off in the second. He did some good things in this one, but is still making some mistakes that are very costly."

“We came alive at the plate in the fourth and were able to overcome some defensive miscues throughout the night by continuing to score runs,” Clover coach Jim Spencer said.

On Monday, the Clovers improved to 14-5 with the repeat win.

“Today’s game was not quite as well played as Saturday’s game, but we were fortunate enough to make a few more plays offensively and defensively than Greencastle,” Spencer said. “We are just trying to get better at making good decisions in the field, at the plate, and on the bases.

Allen had three singles and two RBI, while Lowe had two singles, a double and an RBI, Couch had a double and Long had a single with two RBI.

For Greencastle, Mckenzie Woodall had a double and a single, Ivy Wright had two singles and Macy Clark had a double, single and an RBI.
