Cubs second after six events in girls' track sectional

Girls’ track sectional postponed due to weather; Wilson, Nichols go 1-2 in 1,600

TERRE HAUTE — Rain abbreviated the action in Tuesday evening’s Terre Haute North girls’ track sectional, with just six of the 16 events being completed.

The remaining 10 events will be contested today starting at 5:30 p.m..

The highlight in Tuesday’s activity for Putnam County athletes was the girls’ 1,600-meter run, in which defending state champion Emma Wilson won as expected in a time of 4:59.71.

Running second in the event was South Putnam’s Ally Nichols, whose time of 5:27.65 surpassed her seeded time by more than seven seconds.

Greencastle is in second place in the team standings with 28 points, while Terre Haute South is in first with 62.

South Putnam stands fifth with 19 points, while Cloverdale is eighth with 12 and North Putnam is 10th with eight.

Besides Wilson’s 10 points for her victory, Greencastle also got points from Seelye Stoffregen (seventh in 100 hurdles), Kierra Hayes (eighth in the 100), Kennedy Trigg (third) and Rose White (fourth) in the 400.

The Tiger Cubs were also fifth in the 4x100 relay with a team of Hayes, Sydney Lewis, Alexia Nobles and Tiana Shrewsberry.

Other first-day highlights for Putnam County athletes were Cloverdale’s Kenzie Stoltz (second in the 100 hurdles) and Jasmine Blankenship (sixth in the 400), North Putnam’s 4x100 relay team consisting of Hannah Sims, Reghan Christy, Emily O’Neal and Ashley O’Neal (third place) and South Putnam’s 4x800 relay team consisting of Ally Nichols, Grace Burdge, Lexi Vanihel and Lillie Stein (second).

Burdge was also sixth in the 1,600 and North Putnam’s Anna Haste was seventh.
