TERRE HAUTE — Keyed by a triple win from Emma Wilson, Greencastle’s girls finished third in the Terre Haute North track and field sectional which started on Tuesday and was finished on Wednesday due to weather.

Wilson won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 to provide the Cubs with 30 points, but Greencastle got points from several different places — including speedy freshman Kennedy Trigg — to finish in the top three team-wise behind Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North.

All individuals and relay teams placing in the top three, plus any others who meet the state qualifying standard, will compete in the Bloomington North Regional on Tuesday.

“Kennedy Trigg and Emma Wilson led the way for our ladies’ team on two very hot and humid days,” Greencastle coach Craig Jordan said. “Kennedy played a key role on our relays and was excellent in the long jump to take third. Emma completed a solid triple and is ready to focus solely on the 1,600 and 3,200 going forward.”

Jordan notes the performances of several other team members as helping key his team’s effort.

“Kiearra Hayes made the finals in both the 100 and 200 and was a great anchor for both of our relays,” he said. “Claire Gillen launched another personal best in the shot to take second while Jada Amis cleaned up to take third and score good points for the team. Allison Stevens made the finals in the discus to take sixth, which was another big help.”

“We’ve got a great group headed to regionals in the 1,600, 3,200, 4x100, 4x400, shot put and long jump,” Jordan added.

North Putnam coach Kevin Lutes also pointed to several athletes for having outstanding meets.

“Most of our ladies wrapped up a successful season,” he said. “Josie Lyons broke her PR in the low hurdles by over a second, and Hannah Sims set a school record in the same event and is moving on to regionals.”

Sims also leads North’s regional-qualifying 4x100 team along with Reagan Christy and the O’Neal sisters (Ashley and Emily).

Lutes noted that Ashley O’Neal is also advancing in long jump, and Emily Gasho returns in discus after placing second.

“We’re hoping to keep building on what we’ve done this season,” Lutes said. “It’s such a privilege to work with our coaches and with our athletes on a daily basis.”

Cloverdale got two second-place finishes from Kenzie Stoltz, who was runnerup in both the 100 hurdles and the pole vault to earn a regional spot in both events.

Stoltz broke a 37-year-old school record in the 100 hurdles previously held by Lisa Evans (now Roeder) — the mother of former Cloverdale basketball standout Cooper Neese.

Chelsie Edwards was third in the 800 and will also be moving on.

South Putnam’s only double individual qualifier was distance standout Ally Nichols — who placed second to defending state champion Wilson in both the 1,600 and the 3,200. Freshman Grace Burdge was third in the 3,200 and also earned a regional spot.

Nichols and Burdge also ran on the South 4x800 relay team (along with Lexi Vanihel and Lillie Stein) that placed second.
