This summer, 25 different charitable organizations, scholarships and endowments are participating in the Putnam County Community Foundation Share the Dream program. The fundraising program offers proportionally awarded grant prizes to participants who receive at least 10 donations of $25 or more between May 1 and Aug. 31. Each of the 25 organizations will be highlighted in this series.

The Clinton Township Scholarship’s primary purpose is to memorialize Clinton Township Schools by awarding scholarships to high school students residing in Clinton Township.

Each year a $500 scholarship is presented to a Clinton Township high school graduate and can be renewed each year. Therefore, this scholarship could provide $2,000 for a student’s education over a four-year period.

The Clinton Township Scholarship was the Community Foundation’s first endowment.

The history of the Endowment is a remarkable success story — a story of the power of good ideas and hard work. In 1986 the Clinton Township School alumni met to discuss ways to remember the school, their teachers and classmates. The high school had closed in 1947 and the grade school in 1967.

Because of this discussion, a decision was made to establish a perpetual scholarship in memory of the school for students living in Clinton Township. A fund drive was initiated with the goal of raising $10,000. When this goal was achieved, the Clinton Township alumni were faced with the question of how to invest and manage the fund.

Fortunately, the Putnam County Community Foundation had just been established by a small group of citizens interested in improving life in Putnam County.

Residents of Clinton Township, supporters of education and anyone interested in continuing the legacy of family members who graduated from Clinton Township Schools are encouraged to donate to the Clinton Township Scholarship Endowment.

The Clinton Township Scholarship hopes to continue for years to come. With your help it can not only continue, but also grow.
