City Council to interview three school board candidates

Thursday, June 7, 2018

The Greencastle City Council will choose between three candidates for its latest Greencastle School Board appointment.

School board candidates are incumbent Lisa Lazar, along with Lisa McCoy and Valerie Rudolph. Lazar was appointed to the seat by the City Council four years ago.

Earlier this year, McCoy sought the seat recently filled by Brian Cox in a mid-term vote of the school board itself. She and Rudolph will be interviewed by City Council members in a 7 p.m. special session Monday, June 11 at City Hall.

Lazar, who is seeking reappointment to a second four-year term, will be questioned by the Council in a 7 p.m. special session Wednesday, June 13 at City Hall.

Both sessions are open to the public. No other business is listed on the Council's agenda for either night.

The Council is likely to make its selection at its regular June meeting on Thursday, June 14 at 7 p.m.

The school board position in question will commence on July 1, 2018 and continue through June 30, 2022.

All five members of the Greencastle School Board are appointed, with the City Council appointing the seats held by Cox and Lazar, the Greencastle Township Trustee appointing Mike White and Bill Tobin and the Madison Township Trustee appointing Dale Pierce.

Cox was appointed by the school board in February to fill the board position opened up when Denise Sigworth, who resigned in January. He will serve through June 30, 2020, at which time the City Council will choose who will serve the next four years.
