2018 All-County Softball Team: Mundy, Bratcher claim top awards

Two college-bound softball standouts lead the 2018 all-Putnam County softball team.

Greencastle’s Julia Mundy, who will play next year at Division II Saginaw Valley State University, is the county Pitcher of the Year.

Mundy pitched 131 innings for the Tiger Cubs this spring, striking out 163 batters and walking just 43.

She gave up 110 runs, but only 47 of those were earned runs.

South Putnam’s Drew Bratcher is the county Player of the Year.

The junior catcher will play for DePauw University starting in the spring of 2020.

She hit .468 this spring with a school-record nine home runs, one triple, 10 doubles, 45 RBI and 25 runs scored as the Eagles finished as sectional runnersup.

Overall, the 13 players represented on the all-county team consist of five seniors, four juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen.

Here is the remainder of the all-county team:

• Macie Couch, So., Cloverdale — The Clover pitcher had a 16-5 won/loss record with a 2.57 ERA, striking out 101 batters while walking just 33.

At the plate, Couch had a .377 batting average with eight doubles, one home run, 15 RBI and an on-base percentage of .517.

• Kiley Shedron, Sr., Cloverdale — The Clover first baseman, who will play at Hanover College next spring, had a .407 batting average this spring with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 29 RBI.

She surpassed the 100 mark for career RBI.

• Tori Combs, Jr., Cloverdale — The Clover centerfielder had a .368 batting average with six doubles, two triples, six home runs and 21 RBI.

• Morgan Goss, So., Cloverdale — The Clover shortstop/catcher had a .360 batting average with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBI.

• Layna Robinson, Sr., Greencastle — The versatile Tiger Cub played both third base and catcher this year, ranking third on the team in hitting with a .312 batting average.

She also had five doubles, one triple, nine RBI and 15 runs scored.

• Mckenzie Woodall, Jr., Greencastle — The Tiger Cub shortstop had a .260 batting average with five doubles, one triple, one home run, seven RBI and 13 runs scored.

• Anna Chavez, Jr., Greencastle — The Tiger Cub outfielder batted .261 with four doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and 11 runs scored.

• Drew Steffy, Fr., South Putnam — The Eagles’ second baseman batted .378 with three doubles, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored.

She also made just seven errors in 96 total chances in the field and was a part of five double plays.

• Brionna Egold, Fr., South Putnam — Another freshman, Egold both pitched and played third base for the Eagles.

At the plate, she hit .294 with four doubles, one triple, eight RBI and 20 runs scored.

On the mound, she had a 7-3 record with 49 strikeouts in 79 innings.

• Chloe LaPierre, Sr., North Putnam — The Cougar pitcher/first baseman led the team by hitting five home runs. She batted .261 overall, with one double, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored.

On the mound, she had a 6-5 record with a 4.84 ERA.

• Mia Runnells, Sr., North Putnam — The Cougar shortstop batted .250 with four doubles, one triple, one home run, eight RBI and 13 runs scored.
