School board packets available for candidates

Friday, June 29, 2018

With eight local school board positions set to appear on the November election ballot, school board candidate packets are available at the Putnam County Voter Registration office.

In the North Putnam district, the Clinton Township, Floyd Township and Jackson Township positions will be open. Currently, these positions are held by Travis Lambermont, Ron Spencer and John Hayes, respectively.

For South Putnam, the Jefferson Township and Warren Township positions are up for grabs. Wesley Hacker currently serves Jefferson Township, while David Bombei serves Warren Township.

The Cloverdale School Board has three of its seven positions on the ballot — one of the four Cloverdale Township board members, as well as the seats from Jennings and Taylor townships in Owen County. Vivian Whitaker currently sits in the Cloverdale Township position, while Daniel Hofmann has the Jennings Township position and Duane Huge represents Taylor Township.

Voter Registration Clerk Stacia Hathaway has put together candidate packets for these school board positions which can be picked up at any time.

The first day that they can be filed is Wednesday, July 25 and the deadline to file is noon on Friday, Aug. 24.

While candidates for the Owen County positions can pick up packets at either the Putnam County Courthouse or in Owen County, the packet must be turned in to the Owen County clerk.

The school board candidates will be the last additions to the Nov. 6 ballot, as the final deadline for county, town and township candidates is noon on Monday, July 2.

That is deadline either for independent candidates to file their petitions and packets or for the Republican or Democrat parties to fill vacancies on the ballot.

While the parties have thus far filled no positions following the May primary, one independent candidate has registered.

On Thursday, Hathaway finished approving signatures for independent candidate Gordon T. Brooks, who is running for Cloverdale Town Council at-large.

For more information on registration questions, call the Putnam County Voter Registration Office at 655-1538 or stop by the office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

  • It's a shame Greencastle can't vote for their school board.
