Michael Eugene Rakic (born Michael Boswell) passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, surrounded by friends and family. He had several illnesses over the past year. Michael took the surname Rakic after high school to honor his stepfather.

Michael was born in Greencastle on Jan. 19, 1950 and lived most of his childhood in Greenwood.

As an adult, Michael lived in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Park Slope in Brooklyn, N.Y., Alexandria, Va., and Los Angeles. He owned a home in Silverlake, a Los Angeles neighborhood, at the time of his death.

Michael worked principally in the banking industry, but he was also a journalist, receiving a degree in 1992 from Point Park College in Pittsburgh and being published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Catholic. He also authored two books and painted.

Michael enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe as well as many of the beautiful U.S. national parks. He had a special fondness for mid-coast Maine.

Mike is survived by his long-time companion, Joe Fay, sisters Beverly Brown and Bonnie Gardner; his nieces, Vicki Jolena-Orthaus, Tammy Long, Kara Huffman and Ivy Atkins; and many great nieces and nephews.
