Third time no charm as man arrested thrice in less than 48 hours
After his third arrest in less than 48 hours, a 41-year-old Heritage Lake man is back in the Putnam County Jail on charges of residential entry.
Gregory Ryan McHugh, with an address of Coatesville, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday after reportedly illegally entering a residence on Indianapolis Road, west of the Greencastle McDonald's, City Police said.
McHugh reportedly opened the door to the residence, GPD officials noted, announcing to those inside, "Hi, my name's Greg."
After he was ordered to leave the residence, McHugh was followed by the homeowner and ducked inside the nearby McDonald's restaurant, where Greencastle City Police Officer Alex Pettit found him in the men's bathroom and arrested him on a charge of residential entry.
That was McHugh's second arrest on Tuesday alone, after having been booked into the jail at 1:10 a.m. when GPD Officer Luke Brown took him into custody near the intersection of Bloomington Street and Keightly Road on the city's south side.
That time, McHugh was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and refusal of a portable breathalyzer test but was later released from jail on his own recognizance.
No sooner had McHugh been released, a GPD spokesman said, then police started receiving calls about a suspicious subject matching his description.
The two Tuesday arrests came less than 30 hours after McHugh had been arrested at 8:42 p.m. Sunday on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, two of the same charges he later incurred in his second arrest of the week.
As of presstime Thursday, McHugh remained in the Putnam County Jail, awaiting a court appearance.
