‘An Evening of Worship’ planned Sunday to benefit Beyond Homeless

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

With participation from more than 20 local churches, the congregations of Putnam County will come together for “An Evening of Worship” on Sunday, July 15.

Billed as “The Church United for Beyond Homeless,” there is no charge to attend the event, however there will be donation stations for the local homeless shelter at the event.

The event will take place at Robe-Ann Park from 6-10 p.m., with the hope being that the new park bandshell will be completed in time for the event.

Regardless of the bandshell’s status, organizers are planning a full evening featuring musicians from 10 different churches.

The churches will also be offering meal to anyone who would like one. Like with attendance, there will opportunities to contribute for the meal for those who are able. Anyone unable is invited to come and eat anyway.

Beyond Homeless is Putnam County’s shelter and resource center for women and children. Since it opening in 2014, Beyond Homeless has served 276 women and 124 children as residents of the shelter and assisted 131 men with locating area men’s shelters or local hotel vouchers.

“They have been a positive force in our community, and it’s a joy to see God’s people rising up to support them in their mission,” said Bobbie Lancaster, Greencastle Christian Church worship coordinator.

The evening will feature music from Upward Journey bluegrass band, singer-songwriter Bobbie Lancaster, singer-songwriter Derek Chastain, The StoreHouse worship band, Greencastle Christian Church worship team, Rev. Bryan Langdoc and friends, the Peace Lutheran choir, Kevin Johnston and the First Baptist praise team.

Congregations actively participating in the effort include Big Walnut Christian Church, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Croy’s Creek Christian Church, First Baptist Church-Greencastle, Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Greencastle Christian Church, Greencastle Presbyterian Church, New Hope Fellowship, Peace Lutheran Church and The Store House.

Congregations that have helped spread the word included Bethel Baptist, Harvest House, LifeSpring, Sherwood Oaks and St. Andrews Episcopal, among others.

Anyone unable to come that evening but wishing to support Beyond Homeless may do so at www.beyondhomeless.com.
