Share the Dream Spotlight: Purdue Club of Putnam County

Thursday, July 12, 2018

This summer, 25 different charitable organizations, scholarships and endowments are participating in the Putnam County Community Foundation Share the Dream program. The fundraising program offers proportionally awarded grant prizes to participants who receive at least 10 donations of $25 or more between May 1 and Aug. 31. Each of the 25 organizations will be highlighted in this series.

The Purdue Club of Putnam County Scholarship’s main objective is to provide financial assistance to Putnam County students attending the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University. Its mission is to assist in the costs of paying the expenses of college education for as many eligible students from Putnam County as possible.

The club also provides educational programs to all interested people including students and adults.

The Purdue Club of Putnam County began in 1998 when Marianne and Jim Ash were interested in bringing together people in Putnam County who had ties with Purdue University.

With help from the Purdue Alumni Association, they compiled a list of Putnam County residents who had attended or received a degree from Purdue University. They assembled a small group of interested people, sent out a survey to the entire list, and received very favorable responses.

By May 1998, a larger group met and elected officers. While Purdue sports and social events were important to the group, it was decided that promoting education at Purdue would be a primary goal.

If you believe that the education received at Purdue University will benefit those who are attending and will benefit society through the education they receive, then donate to the Purdue Club of Putnam County Scholarship Endowment to help Putnam County students.
