Emma Alice Staley Smedley

Emma Alice Smedley, 98, was called home by the Lord Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle.

Born May 5, 1920, in Morgan County, Ind., she was the daughter of Tressie (Bourne) Staley and Thomas B. Staley.

She married Morris ("Jum") Smedley in 1942.

Emma Alice graduated from Eminence High School and the Methodist School of Nursing.

After caring for ill family members, working on the farm with her husband, and raising two daughters, she worked at Putnam County Hospital for many years.

She was a member of the Eminence Christian Church and the Church of Christ in Cloverdale. She was also a member of the Eminence Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Morris; three brothers, Henry, Hairm and Harding; one sister, Margaret (Peggy) Wilson; a son-in-law, Ronnie Allee; and granddaughter, Ronna Allee Chappell.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith A. Allee and Chere L. (Kris) Phillips; two grandchildren, Amanda B. Phillips and Aaron B. Phillips; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Deck.

After cremation, she will be interred at Walnut Chapel Cemetery with her husband.
