Union Chapel to celebrate 50th anniversary of the ‘United Methodist Church’ Sunday

Friday, July 27, 2018

In 1968, the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church joined in a merger that created the “United Methodist Church.”

On Sunday, July 29, Union Chapel United Methodist Church will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Methodist Church with a homecoming for Union Chapel UMC.

The worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Bert Kite, a talented portrayer of John Wesley, as the guest speaker.

Rev. Kite is an ordained elder in the Indiana Conference and has just retired from full-time pastoral ministry.

The congregation will provide a picnic dinner following worship, starting around noon. The afternoon program will include a re-dedication of Union Chapel UMC and dedication of the new front door.

Paula Young Mayberry is currently serving as the pastor for Union Chapel. She and the congregation extend an invitation to former members and attendees, as well as anyone who has an interest in the church or the community, to join them in the day of celebration.

Everyone is welcome to attend any or all of the day’s activities.

Union Chapel United Methodist Church is located on the south side of U.S. 36, one mile west of Morton and four miles west of the intersection with U.S. 231.
